It’s pretty amazing what you can achieve with a Pocket-size Nokia N8 and great talent mastering the craft of mobile HD filmmaking.
“Splitscreen: A Love Story” by J.W. Griffiths , helped by his Director of Photography C. Moon, was rewarded at the Nokia Shorts Competition 2011 winning the Grand Jury Prize and a $10 000 bonus. The masterpiece was screened at Edinburgh Film Festival.
Choosing the splitscreen format and based on the idea of “what life would be for two-made-for-each-other people if they’d meet”, the story takes place both in New-York and Paris performing a flawless execution and impressive parallels between the two cities.
For Nokia it’s also a great user generated content campaign, promoting their new smartphone launch and highlighting their products' performances. Over 600 participants answered this call for contest and seven other films were rewarded.
