ICANN Rules Against Dotless Domains

Available in French

Dotless Domains would show up as such an url: http://whatever/ or email address: mail@whatever

According to google's prospective intend to use, http://search/: «combined with a simple technical standard, will allow a consistent query interface across firms that provide search functionality, and will enable users to easily conduct searches with firms that provide the search functionality that they designate as their preference.»

This plan falls flat with New gTLD Program Committee (NGPC) negative decision arguing that: «in light of the current security and stability risks identified in SAC053, the IAB statement and the Carve Systems Report, and the impracticality of mitigating these risks, the NGPC affirms that the use of dotless domains is prohibited.»

That said, Google via Charleston Road Registry Inc., stays in the race for the extension .search, facing Amazon and other competitors; as well as still waits for the initial evaluation of its application.
